For those participating, welcome to “Dry January.” It started in 2013 and encourages people to take the entire month off from drinking alcohol in any form. Initially, 4,300 people took the no-booze pledge.

That number grew to over five million in 2017. Those who participate, claim to experience a variety of health benefits by the end of the month…and those claims are backed up by medical professionals.
